Els Back On Top

Els Back On Top

Ernie Els registered the second win of his season with victory on his debut in the King Hassan 11 Trophy in Morocco.

The South African former world No.1 shot rounds of 69, 67, 71 and 68 to finish on 17 under par, two shots clear of ISM colleague Simon Dyson and Sweden's Johan Edfors.

"I suppose of all my 64 professional career wins this one, from an international perspective, will slip under the radar a little bit, but having experienced this event for the first time I can say that it is huge in Morocco," said the 39-year-old.

Els two shots behind overnight was an amazing seven shots behind after just three holes of his final round after a double bogey at the third.  But spurred by a huge crowd on a wonderful golf course, he came back strongly in the middle of the round.

The pivotal moment came on nthe 17th green when holed from 6oft, the longest of his season.   Although he missed from six feet for birdie at the last he still had a big enough cushion to collect his first win in eight months after his success in the Honda Classic in West Palm Beach, Florida.

ISM players claimed no fewer than four of the top six places with Paul McGinley and Mark Foster also featuring strongly.
