There won’t be a better prepared or happier golfer heading into the season’s second major than Lee Westwood.

Lee completed his build up to the US Open by winning the Nordea Masters by no fewer than five shots. It was his second win of the season and moves him up to second favourite in the betting behind Tiger Woods.

And how good was it to see son Sam being able to celebrate alongside his father for the first time while grandad John and grandma Trish looked on from the sidelines.

After coming so close, so often, I am sure it is only a matter of time before Lee finally joins the major champions club and San Francisco’s Olympic Club should suit him perfectly because of the accent on accurate driving  – one of his main strengths.

We have one of our strongest ever representations at the US Open this week because apart from Lee, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen, Simon Dyson, Branden Grace, Gregory Bourdy, George Coetzee and Matthew Baldwin will all do battle against the rest of the world’s best.

Back in Sweden, it was very pleasing to see Jeev Milkha Singh looking more like the golfer he is after a long time recovering from injury.

His seventh place finish I am sure will be the first of many top tens for the rest of the season.
